Growing up, I didn’t really have that much of them as ankara clothes were mostly worn for occasional purposes; parties, events, festivals, etc. Also, I had always been fascinated by the beauty of ankara since i was ye high; I just admired the prints and colours so well. I remember I had a doll my mom got me in primary 2, i’d cut out pieces of my mom’s ankara clothes and sew a top and skirt with needle and thread. I’d even cut my sister’s clothes or even my own old ankara dresses that my mom made for me, take some of my sister’s bangles and wrap the material around the bangle LOL.
Lately, the African prints fabric are becoming more appreciated and people are so into the trend right now. The wonderful part of it is that the ankara designs have been further modernised and you can style them however you want. I have collaborated with MADKOLLECTION (shop link- HERE) to style an ankara peplum top. What I love about this top is that it can be worn on a ladies day out casually and you can also style it for a night out or an event by ‘spicing’ it up with a pair of fancy heels and a clutch purse. Another thing is the off shoulder style which gives the outfit a more stylish, chic vibe & it compliments the frayed hem of the jeans.
